Underwhelmed!

The Elements challenge at Design Dollies (click on their blinkie in my side bar, they have awesome challenges!) this week was to complete a graduation themed project, so this page takes us back exactly 17 years to my high school graduation. Unfortunately, this is THE best picture of the ceremonies (no zoom lens!) so I put the gem frame around my face to sort of focus the attention there. Did it work? The colours this week are Yellow, Brown, White, and Royal Blue, and I'm proud to say that every piece of paper on this page started out white! I did some random stamping, clear embossing and brayering, and even pulled out the ol' water colour pencils and blending pen to pretty up the flourishes. I also followed this week's sketch pretty closely, so yay, another Trifecta completed!

If you're wondering about the title, well, it comes from a song by a Canadian band, Sloan. Come to think of it, I think the song came out around the same time as my graduation. Anyway, it sums up my feelings on that day pretty well. I know most people are really excited about graduating, but me, on that day, I felt kind of bummed. Did anyone else out there feel like that on their graduation day?

My First Tri-Fold Card!

I watched a YouTube video by Splitcoast Stampers on how to make this cool card for my friend's birthday. The one in the video had more embellishments, but I think this one turned out pretty good for my first try. The hardest part was getting the papers the right size. Don't you just love the Twitterpated papers and the chipboard buttons?

Card for SPCC #49

I went to Smithers last weekend, and they actually have a scrapbooking store, so I bought some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. It was funny, we were just coming to the end of our trip, everyone else had bought themselves a treat except for poor li'l Mama, and so I dragged the whole troop into this store so I could "browse". Well, let me tell ya, it was the quickest browse ever, because I had the husband harping on me ("Here's some hockey paper, buy this so we can get outta here!") and my daughter making all sorts of suggestions ("Mommy, they have some pretty paper here!") and the baby wanted to be fed and my son wanted ice cream at DQ. I grabbed the Glimmer Mist and the ladies at the store actually complimented my husband ("Usually the men don't come in here!") and got the heck out before the you-know-what hit the fan! This is the first project I made with the Glimmer Mist, and it was a lot of fun! The colours for the SPCC colour challenge this week are: Green Galore, Only Orange, and Bermuda Bay, so I used as close as I had for this card. To make the flowers, I just misted some cardstock with water, crumpled 'em up and stuck 'em on there, and I had a leftover scrap of glitter paper that I thought would make some great grass. Ta dah, there you have it, a happy little card!

Shhhh, this card's a secret!

It's my 11th anniversary on Saturday, and so I decided to try a different style of card. I saw this type on Vicki Wizniuk's blog, and decided to give it a try, and I love it! First, I random stamped some White Daisy cardstock, and it looks really cool, so I'll have to think of a way to use up the remnants. I used Black textured cardstock from Close to My Heart, which is a lighter colour on the other side, which is why it is greyish on the inside. I cut the card base first, before I realized it would be grey on the inside, but I like that too. So now I just have to write something on the inside to my hubby. That will actually be the hard part!

I used turquoise, yellow and black as my colours to go with the Design Dollies colour challenge for this week. Thanks for the inspiration, Dollies!

Kicking Horse (layout #27)

This was a trip I went on BK (Before Kids), so it must have been 2001 or something. I went white water rafting with a group of people I didn't really know. I've had the pictures forever, but I didn't really know what to do with them. There were so many, I wanted to include a whole bunch, but not do more than one layout. Then along came the Close to My Heart Flip Flap Memory Protectors. These are 4x6 pockets with their own adhesive flap, and I just stuck 2 of them right on top of my page protector. So this layout has 11 4x6 photos! How cool is that? (I apologize for the glare, but I had to keep the pages in their protectors so you could see how the flip flaps work.)

For this one, I used a page design from the Creating Keepsakes May/June 2010 edition and colours from last week's Design Dollies colour challenge (pink, orange, and cream). We went away this weekend, though, and I didn't get it posted in time. I wanted orange letters for my title, but didn't have stickers, so I embossed them with clear embossing powder and then cut them out with a craft knife. I really like how they turned out! I also stitched my ribbon on with my sewing machine - that is so much fun!

First Ever Stitching on a Project!

I got a sewing machine for Christmas from my parents, and I've hardly had time to even look at it, but after I started making this card, I decided it needed some stitching on it. I started playing around with scraps, and then I went for it. Can you see it around the edge? The ribbon was a bit tricky, and it ended up a bit crooked, but still, I'm pretty stoked! Can't wait to stitch on more projects! I wonder if I'll ever use the machine to sew fabric? The cool jeweled flower is a bit that broke off of one of Ailis's hair doo-dads, and it's been floating around my house forever. It fit perfectly inside the rhinestone circle frame, which fit perfectly on a round chipboard piece I've had and forgotten about for at least 3 years! Don't you just love using up scraps?

As on the last post, I was playing with using bright colours with Kraft cardstock for a Design Dollies challenge. I also used a card pattern from the Card Patterns Sketch blog (#61), but I think I missed the deadline for that one. It was a nice simple sketch, just what I like.
