"Snap Happy" for Let's Get Sketchy

So this morning I woke up and I knew I had tons of cleaning and boring chores that should probably be done, but I just wanted to scrapbook!  I haven't produced any pages in about three weeks, and that is just way too long for me, I've decided.

I broke out my brand new, but so very late in the game, April Counterfeit Kit, and some newly printed photos to make this page:
I used this sketch from Let's Get Sketchy:

And I also took the time to take some photos of my process!  Would you like to know how I made this page?  Well, step one involves a stencil and three colours of Dylusions spray:
Then rather than wash the ink on the stencil down the sink, I pressed it inside my Dylusions journal to start a new background:

Hmmm, not sure what I'll do with that, but I love it just the same!

Next, two strips of washi down the side of the page:
And then figure out what's going to how where:
Add in some arrow stamps, journaling, and gold accent bits, and call it done!

Here's a close-up of the journaling, telling a bit about how we ended up going for sushi with y parents:
And another close-up of some of the accents:

Hope you enjoyed this look into my scrapbooking process today!  I sure had a lot of fun getting inky while making this page!  Thanks for stopping by!!!

New Counterfeit Kit for April

I know, I know, soooooo late this month! If you want to know why, read my previous post, but basically I've just been busy with traveling and family stuff.  I remain optimistic that I WILL be able to make a dent in this kit before the end of the month.

So, without further fanfare, here is the kit that the gals at Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog have chosen to copy this month:
This is the March Messy Box from A Beautiful Mess.   I'm seriously loving the brights mixed with the black and white, and I found some great things to forge, like the cards.  Here's what I came up with:

Bit of trial and error involved, but I'm pretty impressed with how they turned out.

I thought if it's a "Messy Box", I better include some messy stuff, like Dylusions and acrylic paint.  I also added some washi tape:

Some tissue paper, die cuts, and gold alphas:
And finally, some patterned paper that seemed to go along with the theme:
Back row is Amy Tangerine, middle row is all Recollections, then bottom row has two Dream Street papers, one from Simple Stories, one from KI Memories, and I'm not sure where the last one is from.

Rather a small kit, so I might be pulling other stuff from my stash as I create, we shall see.  Very excited to get messy, though!

Sort of a Random Post Here...

I have a layout to share, and I finished it a while ago but just haven't had the time to post!  Kids were on Spring Break, we took a little holiday to see the grandparents at Easter, and then the week before we had a family emergency-my dad was really sick and ended up being hospitalized!  He's relatively okay now, but needed three blood transfusions to get there.  Whew, I am relieved for the moment and hoping that things will settle down now.  Although Brenna fell at daycare on Friday, chipped a tooth, and ended up getting two removed...
Good grief, life sure does get crazy sometimes!

Anyway, enough of my babbling, here is the page I worked long and hard to make in between crises:

I used this sketch by Let's Get Sketchy, but I turned it 90 degrees to the right:

You can kind of see the background paper and journaling here:
The gist of the story is that we went to the park, Brenna spent a bit of time in the baby swing, and then when she tried the big girl swing, she ended up face planting with an open mouth in the sand!

I had a heck of a time with the background paper!  I wanted to use the Gelato from my March Counterfeit Kit, so I just swiped it around willy nilly on white card stock, then sprayed with water hoping for a watercolor effect.  Nope, it looked terrible!  So I spread gesso over the whole thing and tried again, and ta da!  I love it!  Then to add even more texture, I rubbed the gold Gelato on a background stamp, spritzed with water, then stamped randomly around.  I also used the gold Gelato to colour the doily, see?
Some fussy cut balloons, and yeah, I'm loving it!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!  I'm hoping to get more done in April, but so far it's not looking promising, unfortunately!
