Card #11 - Happy Birthday Tara!

It was Tara's birthday yesterday, and I went to Williams Lake for a special birthday crop in her honor. It was great to meet most of the members of the Seriously Creative Design Team, and I was able to see their creative mojo in progress. Let me tell you, "Seriously Creative" is really an understatement! They are FREAKIN' AMAZING!!! Especially with the Copic action! Anyhoo, it's a little humbling to give a card to an accomplished cardmaker like Tara, but I couldn't go empty handed, so this is what I came up with:

It features a Kraftin' Kimmie stamp called... "Roxy"!!! Can you believe it? And since she's a roller derby queen, she MUST be Roxy Rolla! I just had to have this stamp, even though she looks nothing like me, although I dig the hair and the leg warmers - I might be able to pull those two off, but the hot pants are a definite no-go at the mo'! Okay, enough ramblin' about me, more about the card. I used this sketch from Paper Sundaes, but missed the deadline due to our little croppin' party:
I also got to use the new Copics that Jenn sent me, some beautiful YG's! Plus I watched a couple of YouTube videos by Suzanne Dean to tweak my technique. This time I tried to get some highlights in the center of her body, and I think it's looking pretty good. I think this might be my best coloring job yet! I was also inspired by my friend Carole to get out my ol' sewing machine and add some stitching, just to make it a wee bit more special. This will also allow me to enter Some Odd Girl's challenge this week.

Well, weekend's pretty much over. Apparently our new puppy will be arriving next weekend (yikes!) and Jason's going to be in Kamloops most of the week, so let's see if mama can keep the stress level under control! Wish me luck!

Supplies: Close to My Heart and Bazzill cardstock, Cosmo Cricket and Echo Park patterned paper, Kraftin' Kimmie stamp, Memento ink, Copic markers, Close to My Heart pearl, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, unknown die cut flowersPosted by Picasa

  1. Gorgeous card Rox!! I love the colour combo!!! Your colouring is fabulous!! Highlights in the hair and body (: I like how you embossed the white piece, it's amazing what a bit of embossing adds eh!? As for the stitching, I would love to incorporate it in my cards but I need to learn how to use a sewing machine first!! I have absolutely no excuse since my mom does beautiful work and I could get her to teach me ): Good luck with the new puppy, you are one brave woman!!! My kids want a dog in the worst way but I just don't think I could handle one more thing!! Have a great week!!

  3. Hey Roxy! Sorry to hear about your 'shoe' and 'bus' incidents.. I would've freaked out too, if I had been Nolan.
I was sooo glad to get that exam over.. but I have another one later this month! Ugh... I feel like I need about a week off before thinking about another exam!!
Your card looks great! That is a sassy image lol! And thats so cool that you were able to meet the design team! I always wanted to be able to meet some bloggy friends, but never have. Maybe I need to plan a vacation to Canada haha!
My sister and I met one of her online friends once. We met at a zoo. It was a lot of fun, plus she was Korean, so I had a ton of questions for her.. me loving the Korean culture. :)
Hopefully, I can get back to crafting some soon. I need to get back into it to relieve some of this stress lol.
    Hugs, Hollie

Love this card - your colouring is FAB, love how you made her hair shiny :) and love that I inspired you to dig out your sewing machine - it's a lot of fun sewing on paper isn't it (even in circles!!!)

Glad you enjoyed your crop too!

  7. Love this KK image and you did a great job with the colouring! I haven't delved into the Copic world although I have been mighty tempted. Can't wait to see pics of the new puppy! I have been looking around a little for one too, but haven't found my little "bootbrush" yet!!
