Layout #37 - From Screen 2 Scrap

Due to unforseen family circumstances, I am back from my "holiday" early, but not to worry, I did make it to Creative Accents (priorities, right?) and I only bought 6 pieces of patterned paper! Can you believe it, I really had to hold myself back, but I think I succeeded in only buying what I will need for the next 2 or 3 LO's. (I did indulge in a piece of Graphic 45 pixie paper, no idea what I'll do with it, but with 2 girls, I'm sure I'll find some use!) Anyway, one item on my mental list was a piece of music note paper to enter this month's challenge at From Screen 2 Scrap. The other criteria were to include some red and navy, and a two-tone title, so here's what I came up with:
Here's a close up of the title:

And of the journaling:
And here's the sketch I used from Page Maps, love it!
In my last post, I admitted to my patterned paper addiction, and many of you confessed that you suffer from the same affliction (surprise! Maybe there's a need for a support group, haha!) So I'm including this last photo so you can see what I do with my pp in order to retain some bits of a full sheet of precious beauty for scraps. What you see is the backside of my layout, with a rectangular chunk of Rose Moka taken out of the main sheet and some circles taken out of the Sassafrass Lass piece. I know, I'm pathetic, but I just can't help myself!
Supplies: Rose Moka, Sassafrass Lass, Cosmo Cricket, and Echo Park patterned paper, unknown cardstock, Close to My Heart ink (Outdoor Denim, White Daisy, Olive, Cranberry, and Crystal Blue) and stamp sets (Love This and Picture Perfect), Sakura white pen, unknown ribbon, staples, Cuttlebug machine and embossing folder

  1. Don't worry, I do that too. It not only saves paper to use in other ways but reduces the weight of the layout for your album. Win, win I say.
I like the torn edges and white pen journalling but I love the sentiment.

  6. Good job on the layout! and nice restraint! There's no way I can do that! Specially when there's a paper sale going on! I really like your interpretation of the sketch! It was nice to finally meet you in person at CA the other day too! I hope everything is okay (reason for cutting your holiday short)

  7. Ooooh love this one Roxy, what a fab take on the sketch and it looks amazing with the b/w photos.
Thanks for popping in at my blog... Soooo, Seven Little Australians - it's a children's classic! It's about a family of seven children; their different personalities and adventures are quite addictive. Think 'Little Women' with more kids and an Australian accent. Be warned, there are some teary episodes in there too! Let me know if you have trouble sourcing it in your part of the world and I'll hit the second hand stores here and try to get hold of a copy for you ;)

  10. I definitely do that all the time too! Papers are just too gorgeous to cover up when you could cut them out! And it reduces the overall bulk of the LO!

Great LO, love the close up shots, and a great design. And I'm a sucker for polka dots! Thanks for joining in at FS2S! :)

  11. Great layout!! I love what you did to the edges! And great layering!!
I am CRAZY when it come to saving paper.. I frame a lot of my pages (especially my wedding layouts) with patterned paper. Well, instead of using the whole page, I measure how much is going to show and then cut out the rest. So now I have a huge square of paper that I can use to embellish my layout or even save for an 8x8 page. :) Pretty much doubles your paper supply lol.
For example on the layout I posted a few days ago that had the lacing on it. The papers that were laced were actually from the background paper (reverse side). So, I didn't have to use a whole other sheet of paper! :)
Anyway, sorry you had to leave early from your trip... I hope everything is alright with your family!
    Hugs,
    Hollie

  13. Great LO Roxy. I have really got to start taking/converting more b&w pics!!
I think what you did was ingenious! I may have to start doing that too. I horde my scraps like crazy - even the little 1/4" bits that you get when you use a border punch. Yes, I know, I have a problem!! Now I've started taking any scraps smaller that 4x4 and punching shapes out of them - butterflies, hearts, circles, whatever punches I have - and then I have a stash of accents in papers I love to use on future projects.
There, that's my tip for today! :)
Hope all is well. It sucks to have to cut a trip short! Take care!!
