December Daily Day 23 and Some Reflections

Here's my ear infection page! I know, you've all been waiting for it, hee hee! I just held the camera out in front and took this shot myself, and I really like how the journaling on the photo turned out. I am going to put this one in for the Design Dollies Elements Challenge, which says to use ONLY ONE of each: piece of cardstock, piece of patterned paper, word in the title (December 23), photo, and embellishment. For some reason I found myself wanting to add more embellishments, but I now that it's done, I like the clean look.

I woke up this morning and I was a little bit bummed out. I must admit, this is not the first New Year's Eve where I've felt this way, but today's mood caught me by surprise. Instead of thinking about how blessed I've been this year, I was dwelling on how isolated I feel. We don't have any family in this town, and although we've lived here for over two years, I don't have a lot of friends to do things with. We didn't get invited to any New Year's Eve celebrations, and then I realized I haven't been to one at all in 5 years. As a child and young adult, I was very much a social animal, surrounded by friends and happiest when in the center of attention. Things have gradually changed: because of several moves, I have become more independent, which is great, and for the most part I am content to do things with Jason and the kids or on my own. But every now and then, like on New Year's Eve or birthdays, I feel the isolation more. So, I told Jason how I was feeling, and he was very understanding and took Nolan and Ailis out for a ski so I could relax. Then he brought home Chinese food, a bottle of wine, and a chick flick, so my mood is much better now. I just thought it might feel good to purge all the negativity here before the New Year, and maybe there's someone else out there reading this who thinks New Year's Eve sucks, too! Let us unite, ha ha ha!!! Seriously, though, it's been a great year and I love that I've been able to make some fantastic blogging buddies (you know who you are!) I don't think I would've been able to continue with this blog if it weren't for all of your supportive comments, and I hope to "see" everyone again in 2011!

  2. neat layout Rox!!!
If it makes you feel any better, we stayed home and watched movies with the kids and had Chinese too (: I think we were supposed to be invited out to a friend's family New Years party but my hubby and his friend (who would have also been invited) had a misunderstanding and instead of clearing it up like big boys they still aren't talking, so we didn't get invited ): (there's my sob story (: ) It was kind of nice just to stay home and relax though.
I hope your 2011 is all that you want it to be!!!! Big Hugs!!!!!!

  3. Hi Roxy, I love your clean and simple page, and I'm "hearing" what you are saying about New Years Eve (sorry, couldn't resist an ear joke). I am not a New Years Eve fan at all. It's a bit of a joke in my family, and I just want to cry when I hear "Auld Lang Syne"! By the time it's New Years Day, I am fine again! Having said all that, we had a lovely evening last night with our dear friends.

    Happy New Year!

  4. Hey Roxy. Sounds like you've got a keeper in Jason!! Sorry to hear (and I'm really not trying to make an ear joke!) that you are so far from friends and family right now. I know how hard that can be.
Take consolation in the fact that your New Year's eve didn't involve in laws, kids puking or being home by 9:00. I say next year we make a pact to celebrate properly at a restaurant, sans kids!! You in?

  5. Hi again, thanks for popping over to my blog and leaving a kind message :)

Yeah, a lot of our state is under water at the moment - one site said, "The flooding has hit an area the size of France and Germany, affecting 200,000 people in more than 20 towns and cities." Thankfully where I live it is mostly localised flooding - some roads and bridges but no major infrastructure or houses. We live high up so our house is safe but road access can be compromised.

    Take care x

  6. Hi again Roxy. Saw your comment and had to laugh ... I was just about to change the link!! I signed up for something by accident! I was trying to figure it out but can't - I think it's a place to recruit people but I just wanted a badge to take people to check out the Happiness Project for themselves. Oh well!
Good luck with finishing your DD! It feels good to have it done. I was going to put it away with our Christmas Decorations boxes but can't bear to hide it away yet. Maybe in a month or so!
    Anyway, have a good one!
